Hiking the East Coast Trail from Points East Guest House, Pouch Cove, Newfoundland

East Coast Trail, Points East Guest House and Retreat Center Points East is located directly on the East Coast Trail, a coastal hiking trail that connects picturesque communities, natural attractions and lighthouses for a distance of over 400 km.

Start your Adventure at Points East!

The East Coast Trail was begun in 1994 by enthusiastic volunteers. With additional help from various government support programs, much has been accomplished since then. In September 2001 the first 220 km of professionally developed hiking trail from Fort Amherst to Cappahayden were officially opened. More trail sections to the north are currently under construction and/or completed.

The East Coast Trail is providing a world-class tourist attraction with its rugged, diverse landscapes and such cultural components as traditional outports, lighthouses, and shipwrecks. From its inception the mandate of the East Coast Trail Association was not only to protect and conserve this extraordinary natural environment, but also to make it accessible to local residents as well as visitors and to further rural economic development.

The Trail offers walks ranging from easy rambles to wilderness challenges. Explore over 30 historic communities, 4 provincial parks, 3 national historic sites, 3 ecological reserves, 8 historic lighthouses, 200-meter high headlands, towering sea stacks, deep fjords, an archeological dig at Ferryland, and a 50-meter suspension bridge at La Manche Provincial Park.
